Bart Sturgill, Chief Information Officer of Google Books, said, "Our hope is that the new e-book will show up by the end of 2013, and I'm more than happy we've been able to get it because of its unique and compelling message."
A Google spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment. Amazon Web Services founder and Chief Executive Dick Costolo said in a note for all its customers over the holiday season they appreciate the success of the book, its e-books, and that it will sell "a lot better."
But the launch of the e-book is part of a broader push by Amazon to draw customers to its e-books. A year ago, Amazon set up e-commerce website Amazon.com with a few goals in mind: (1) to serve as a data store for Amazon's catalog, thereby providing customers with a faster pace toward spending and (2) to provide customer support during the holidays. Bezos has said that e-books are the next big thing.
