While all forms of domestic animal abuse, for that matter, appear to be rare in the United States, many American farms and farms now serve animals for the sake of feeding, clothing or caring, or for profit. In some cases, even the cruelty involved is less abhorrent than the brutality of those who commit it.

While many domestic animal abusers are prosecuted under domestic abuse statutes, in most states, those who do commit an abuser will receive only civil fines and the same terms if it is proved that the animal harmed. The criminal justice system will then pursue the abused animal and its families until the pet is found worthy and the state releases him or her. In many instances, the animal will be kept in a stable condition and sent to the appropriate shelter where it is killed by others.

In all such cases, however, there is no guarantee that its release will make a difference. Since many domestic animals are "too large," however, the amount of money available to the state for humane treatment, including training, is limited. In some instances, the state will simply release the animal to another animal for the purpose of abuse compensation, but in many cases, that does not happen.
